Saturday of the Twenty-seventh week in Ordinary Time

Saint of the day : Saint Francis Borgia , Priest (1510-1572)

Readings

12Let the nations bestir themselves and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; For there I will sit in judgment upon all the neighboring nations. 13Apply the sickle, for the harvest is ripe; Come and tread, for the wine press is full; The vats overflow, for great is their malice. 14Crowd upon crowd in the valley of decision; For near is the day of the LORD in the valley of decision.

15Sun and moon are darkened, and the stars withhold their brightness. 16The LORD roars from Zion, and from Jerusalem raises his voice; The heavens and the earth quake, but the LORD is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the men of Israel.

17Then shall you know that I, the LORD, am your God, dwelling on Zion, my holy mountain; Jerusalem shall be holy, and strangers shall pass through her no more.

18And then, on that day, the mountains shall drip new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk; And the channels of Judah shall flow with water: A fountain shall issue from the house of the LORD, to water the Valley of Shittim.

19Egypt shall be a waste, and Edom a desert waste, Because of violence done to the people of Judah, because they shed innocent blood in their land.

20But Judah shall abide forever, and Jerusalem for all generations. 21I will avenge their blood, and not leave it unpunished. The LORD dwells in Zion.

1The LORD is king; let the earth rejoice; let the many islands be glad.a 2Cloud and darkness surround Him; justice and right are the foundation of His throne.b

5The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth.d 6 The heavens proclaim His justice; all peoples see his glory.

11Light dawns for the just, and gladness for the honest of heart.j 12 Rejoice in the LORD, you just, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.k

27While He was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed." 28He replied, "Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it."

Notes on Readings:

A). Joel 4:13 Because of their different crimes, the nations are ripe for chastisement. The use of warlike weapons against them is linked to the onslaught on the fields and vines at harvest time.

B). Joel 4:18 -  The Valley of Shittim, or "the ravine of the acacia trees: perhaps a part of the Kidron Valley southeast of Jerusalem; the prophetic picture of a stream of water flowing from a fountain in the temple of Jerusalem is to be found in Ezekiel 47:1 . The Shittim east of the Jordan (see footnote on Numbers 25:1) is hardly referred to here.

C). Luke 11:27-28 - The beatitude in  Luke 11:28  should not be interpreted as a rebuke of Jesus’ Mother; see the footnote on Luke 8:21. Rather, it highlights (like (like Luke 2:35) that concentration to God's word is more important significant than biological relationship to Jesus.

Dear Humanity,

I personally encourage everyone to emulate JESUS' values on LOVE, FAITH, HOPE
and CHARITY, as the humanity has been a failure; which resulted to the more than two (2) years of pandemic and its after-effects on economy, not only here in the Philippines but worldwide.

And the saddest part of it, is that, it affected the POOREST of the POOR to even extremely be more poorer, in exchange of the affluent to be more richer.

Thank you and may GOD bless you and the whole family to have an enjoyed life's journey at home, Church, schools/universities, corporate commitments, public and places of interest.
