Saint of the day : Saint Evaristus, Pope and Martyr (112)
Readings
12Consequently, brothers, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to
the flesh. 13For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the spirit you
put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
14For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.[1] 15For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you
received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, "Abba, Father!"
16The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only
we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
2May
God arise; may his enemies be scattered; may those who hate him flee before
him. 4Then
the just will be glad; they will rejoice before God; they will celebrate with
great joy.
6Father
of the fatherless, defender of widowsd— God in his holy abode,
7
God gives a home to the forsaken, who leads prisoners out to prosperity,
20Blessed
be the Lord day by day, God, our salvation, who carries us.j
21
Our God is a God who saves; escape from death is the LORD God’s.
10He was teaching in a synagogue on the sabbath.[2] 11And a woman was there who for eighteen years had been crippled by a spirit; she
was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect.
12When Jesus saw her, he called to her and said, "Woman, you are set free of
your infirmity." 13He laid His hands on her, and she at once stood up straight and glorified God.
14But the leader of the synagogue, indignant that Jesus had cured on the sabbath,
said to the crowd in reply, "There are six days when work should be done.
Come on those days to be cured, not on the sabbath day."
15The Lord said to him in reply, "Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on
the sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger and lead it out for
watering?[3]16
This daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for eighteen years now, ought
she not to have been set free on the sabbath day from this bondage?"[4]
17When He said this, all His adversaries were humiliated; and the whole crowd
rejoiced at all the splendid deeds done by Him.
Notes on Readings
[1]
Romans 8:14-17 - Christians, by reason
of the Spirit's presence within them, enjoy not only new life but also a new
relationship to God, that of adopted children and heirs through Christ, whose
sufferings and glory they share.
[3]
Luke 13:10-17 - The cure of the
crippled woman on the sabbath and the controversy that results furnishes a
parallel to an incident that will be reported by Luke in 14:1-6 the cure of the man with
dropsy on the sabbath. A characteristic of Luke's style is the juxtaposition of
an incident that reveals Jesus' concern for a man with an incident that reveals
his concern for a woman; compare with Luke 7:11-17 and Luke 8:49-56.
[4]
Luke 13:15-16 - If the law as
interpreted by Jewish tradition allowed for the untying of bound animals on the
sabbath, how much more should this woman who has been bound by Satan's power be
freed on the sabbath from her affliction.
[5]
Luke 13:16 Whom Satan has bound:
affliction and infirmity are taken as evidence of Satan's hold on humanity. The
healing ministry of Jesus reveals the gradual wresting from Satan of control
over humanity and the establishment of God's kingdom.

Dear Humanity,
I personally encourage everyone to emulate JESUS' values on LOVE, FAITH, HOPE
and CHARITY, as the humanity has been a failure; which resulted to the more than two (2) years of pandemic and its after-effects on economy, not only here in the Philippines but worldwide.
And the saddest part of it, is that, it affected the POOREST of the POOR to even extremely be more poorer, in exchange of the affluent to be more richer.
Thank you and may GOD bless you and the whole family to have an enjoyed life's journey at home, Church, schools/universities, corporate commitments, public and places of interest.
