Monday of the First Week in Ordinary
Time
Saint of the Day: Saint Theodosius, The Cenobiarch (423-529)
Reading 1
1There was a certain man from
Ramathaim, Elkanah by name, a Zuphite from the hill country of Ephraim. He was
the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. 2He
had two wives, one named Hannah, the other Peninnah; Peninnah had children, but
Hannah was childless.
3This man regularly went on
pilgrimage from his city to worship the LORD of hosts and to sacrifice to Him
at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were ministering as
priests of the LORD.
4When the day came for Elkanah to
offer sacrifice, he used to give a portion each to his wife Peninnah and to all
her sons and daughters, 5but a double portion to Hannah because he loved her, though
the LORD had made her barren.
6Her rival, to upset her, turned it
into a constant reproach to her that the LORD had left her barren. 7This went
on year after year; each time they made their pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the
LORD, Peninnah would approach her, and Hannah would weep and refuse to eat.
8Her husband Elkanah used to ask her:
“Hannah, why do you weep, and why do you refuse to eat? Why do you grieve? Am I
not more to you than ten sons?”

Gospel
14After John had been arrested, Jesus
came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God: 15“This is the time of
fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”[1]
16As He passed by the Sea of Galilee,
He saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were
fishermen.[2]
17Jesus said to them, “Come after me,
and I will make you fishers of men.” 18Then they left their nets and
followed Him. 19He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of
Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets.
20Then He called them. So they left
their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed Him.
Notes on Readings:
[1] Mark 1:14-15 - After John had been arrested: in the plan
of God, Jesus was not to proclaim the good news of salvation prior to the
termination of the Baptist's active mission. Galilee: in the Marcan account,
scene of the major part of Jesus' public ministry before His arrest and
condemnation. The gospel of God: not only the good news from God but about God
at work in Jesus Christ. This is the time of fulfillment: that is of God's
promises. The kingdom of God . . . repent: see the footnote on Matthew 3:2.
[2] Mark 1:16-20 - These verses narrate the call of the first
Disciples. See the footnotes on Matthew 4:18-22 and Matthew 4:20.

Dear Humanity,
I personally encourage everyone to emulate JESUS' values on LOVE, FAITH, HOPE
and CHARITY, as the humanity has been a failure; which resulted to the more than two (2) years of pandemic and its after-effects on economy, not only here in the Philippines but worldwide.
And the saddest part of it, is that, it affected the POOREST of the POOR to even extremely be more poorer, in exchange of the affluent to be more richer.
Thank you and may GOD bless you and the whole family to have an enjoyed life's journey at home, Church, schools/universities, corporate commitments, public and places of interest.
