Memorial
of Saint Martin of Tours, Bishop
Reading
1
1Hear,
O kings, and understand; learn, you magistrates of the earth’s expanse!
2Hearken,
you who are in power over the multitude and lord it over throngs of peoples! 3Because
authority was given you by the Lord and sovereignty by the Most High, who shall
probe your works and scrutinize your counsels.
4Because,
though you were ministers of His kingdom, you judged not rightly, and did not
keep the law, nor walk according to the will of God,[1] 5Terribly
and swiftly shall He come against you, because judgment is stern for the
exalted– 6For the lowly may be pardoned out of mercy but the mighty shall be
mightily put to the test.
7For
the Lord of all shows no partiality, nor does He fear greatness, Because He Himself made the great as well as the small, and He provides for all alike; 8but
for those in power a rigorous scrutiny impends.
9To
you, therefore, O princes, are my words addressed that you may learn wisdom and
that you may not sin. 10For those who keep the holy precepts hallowed shall be
found holy, and those learned in them will have ready a response.[2] 11Desire
therefore my words; long for them and you shall be instructed.
Responsorial
Psalm
R.
(8a) Rise up, O God, bring judgment to the
earth.
3Defend
the lowly and the fatherless; render justice to the afflicted and the
destitute. 4Rescue the lowly and the poor; from the hand of the wicked deliver
them.
R.
Rise up, O God, bring judgment to the earth.
6I
said: “You are gods, all of you sons of the Most High; 7yet like men you shall
die, and fall like any prince.”
R.
Rise up, O God, bring judgment to the earth.
Alleluia
1 Thessalonians 5:18
R.
Alleluia, alleluia.
In
all circumstances, give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ
Jesus.
R.
Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel
11As
Jesus continued His journey to Jerusalem, He traveled through Samaria and
Galilee.[3] 12As
He was entering a village, ten lepers met Him. They
stood at a distance from Him 13and raised their voice, saying, “Jesus, Master!
Have pity on us!”
14And
when He saw them, He said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.”
As
they were going they were cleansed.[4] 15And
one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud
voice; 16and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked Him. He was a Samaritan.
17Jesus
said in reply, “Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? 18Has none but this foreigner returned to give
thanks to God?” 19Then
He said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has saved you.”[5]
[2] Wisdom
6:10 - Response: a suitable plea before the great Judge. Compare with Proverbs 22:21; Job 31:14; Hebrews 2:1; Sirach 8:9.
[5] Luke
17:11-19 - This incident recounting the thankfulness of the cleansed Samaritan
leper is narrated only in Luke's gospel and provides an instance of Jesus
holding up a non-Jew (Luke 17:18) as an example to His Jewish contemporaries (compare with Luke 10:33) where
a similar purpose is achieved in the story of the good Samaritan). Moreover, it
is the faith in Jesus manifested by the foreigner that has brought him
salvation (Luke 17:19); compare with the similar relationship
between faith and salvation in Luke 7:50; 8:48, 50.

Dear Humanity,
I personally encourage everyone to emulate JESUS' values on LOVE, FAITH, HOPE
and CHARITY, as the humanity has been a failure; which resulted to the more than two (2) years of pandemic and its after-effects on economy, not only here in the Philippines but worldwide.
And the saddest part of it, is that, it affected the POOREST of the POOR to even extremely be more poorer, in exchange of the affluent to be more richer.
Thank you and may GOD bless you and the whole family to have an enjoyed life's journey at home, Church, schools/universities, corporate commitments, public and places of interest.
